You don't trash can the points and condenser. If you would read Deve's write up, you would understand that he designed his HEI to be easily swapped out so that you could replace it with the points if needed. Put them in the glove box.
HEI ignitions are far superior in performance than ever-degrading points. The HEI has no mechanical parts that wear out, nor points contacts to corrode.

Oh,I read it, and I understand it perfectly. HEI ignitions were designed for emission purposes, leaner fuel mixtures, catalytic convertors,etc. HEI works well with higher rpm's, however these stovebolts will never see these revs. You won't see a lick of performance gain in these engines from installing an HEI. If you spend the money to change out the points, then feel the need to carry an extra set of points in the glove box, then you might as well leave the points in the distributor and save the money. I have had the same set of points in mine for four years and 8 thousand miles. Adjusted them twice, keep em lubed. In my opinion, getting to tinker and adjust is part of the antique vehicle experience
