....because I'm too busy hauling bush. Maybe I'll consider touching it up here and there, maybe restore the interior but right now the truck is having way too much fun hauling stuff and doing errands.

Hmmmmmmmm, Maybe the word brush would sound a little better.

Actually, the wife knows how much I Like treating the truck like a truck but she's hoping I would at least give it a quick paint job to cover up all the scratches in the bed as well as the back side of the cab. Seee? with brush in place you can't see all them scratches.

Dennis, I don't remember where I got those lights, but I believe they came from someone here on the bolt maybe 10+ years ago. All I remember is that they are actually chevy or gmc back up lights but no idea off of what.

Backup lights? BACKUP LIGHTS? We don't need no stinkin' backup lights!

From what I saw... leave it alone. Drive it and have fun!

I think it looks good as is. All those marks are like the scars we've all accumulated over the years. They were earned honestly.

Around here we call those scratches "character".

But if your hauling the wife to church in it you could at least wash it smile

Trucks do pay their way while a car is an absess on a man's billfold!!!

My truck is still in primer after 2 years of restoring it, and 23 years of rust before that. When someone asks me about painting it, I tell them primer is paint.

I'm "Mustang" in the heart. My first new car was a 65 Mustang I ordered from the factory. ...289 with 4 barrel and 3 speed. Memories of cold beer and hot girls.

Maybe for now, I'll just start putzing with it instead like replace the old rubber hoses, drive the truck, check brake shoes, drive the truck, change brake fluid, drive the truck, repack wheel bearings, drive the truck, clean up the wiring in the engine bay, etc, and yes drive the truck. That will be more beneficial to the rig as compared to doing cosmetics.

Don't take it apart to restore! I tore my 37 apart several years ago. For a while I lost interest. I'm finally interested in getting started putting it back together. I've lost many years driving this truck. I should have never taken the cab off the frame...... I think yours looks great now!

Just needed motivation. Got frustrated with it & got tired of sanding. I have never taken a vehicle apart this far. I now finally have the time & am figuring out where to start again. My motivation now is a friend visiting from England next May. He wants to drive it. He just finished restoring a Lancia Fulvia into a rally car. My 52 MG TD has taken a fair amount of time getting the brakes sorted & new valve seat. At least the MG is a runner.

You've kind of answered your own question. wink
Sounds like you're having way too much fun,if you tear it apart you'll probably regret it.
At least doing it that way you can still drive it.

Yeah,
Think I'll get the biggest bang for the buck if I go that path. Oh yes and install new door weather stripping.

I prefer working on mine a little at a time and driving it between tasks.

Sounds like the way to go, otherwise what will all the hot local housewives give a thumbs up to if the truck is down for a long time.

We are all missing the point here--- dab a little paint on the scratches and make her happy with a promise to do a better job a little at a time. Remember "if Momma ain't happy, nobody is happy!"

GrandpaGlennO, has the right idea. my preacher's son was ashamed of the old Toyota truck he had to drive so i told him to clean it up and spray primer over the rust and if someone said something just say you are in the process of restoring it.

Maybe you could enlist her to mask off certain areas, sand them down, and paint them - all while you are doing the other maintenance?

Take it to the best custom paint shop in town. Get an estimate on sanding the whole thing down, fixing any dents the old fashion way (not with bondo) and then painting it with a good 3 stage paint (don't forget to have them quote on the door jams too). Take the estimate home and act real excited when you show it to her. Guaranteed she’ll find a new love for the truck just the way it is………..
