Saturday Big show in the daytime at the 15,000 member Calvary Church in Naperville, IL, best great turn out I’ve seen so far at that meet. Weather could not have been more perfect; I even got the wife to go with me for once. First car show that she’s ever been to and she had a good time. Sunday was our AACA sponsored all day swap and car show that filled the Sandwich, IL fairgrounds, again an excellent turn out even with the threat of rain showers. Took my 1950, 3604 “work in process” to all the shows this week end and thought I would at least get an award for the rattiest looking truck there, and it was. I was kind of ashamed to bring something like that in amongst all those beautiful rods and restorations but at least I didn’t have to walk all that far when it was time to leave. I had already put a rebuilt axle with the 5-lug disc kit on the front so I was looking for an excuse to change out the rear. Bad rear end made it an easy decision to go ahead and do it now. So I picked up a 10 bolt friday morning from a local junkyard. It came with a 2.56 gear so a new carrier and complete rebuild are in order. I spent a good part of the weekend disassembling and cleaning it. Cutting the old spring perches off of it was a chore. I got a couple coats of paint on it today. I haven't decided yet whether to assemble it myself, I'm thinking experience may be a good thing to ensure it gets done right.
After that I went back under the truck to clean and scrape all the dirt and rust off the frame, crossmembers, floor, fenderwells, etc. Its a dirty job but I'm making good progress. I just have a small section left to do now; from firewall to the back of the passenger door and between the outside of the frame to the door. | | | | Joined: May 2005 Posts: 119 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: May 2005 Posts: 119 | I had the '66 in the parade again today pulling a trailer with the old Vets who can't march too good anymore. It was a real nice day, in the high 70's. This time I dressed in my BDU's. The long neck beers were only a buck for anyone in uniform at the VFW! We had alot of fun. Tomorrow we take the flags off of all the graves, close to 1800 of them. Total trip mileage was 940 miles. Not one lick of trouble with the truck. Ya gotta love it. | | | | Joined: Nov 2005 Posts: 266 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Nov 2005 Posts: 266 | I charged the battery up and got it running again. Drove it around the yard a little bit and then pulled it up to the garage for the day. I adjusted the valves (engine off, it was less of a mess and mom doesn't have to make me pressure wash the concrete off again), adjusted the carb and timing. I also checked the brake that had been giving me issues and put half a tank of gas in it. Now it runs like a top and sounds great. Brittany helped me clean up the mating surfaces for the valve cover gasket and took a video of it running for me.
I also took the dog to the vet and then went swimming, that turned out to be quite fun, even though I got a chest cold from the water. | | | | Joined: Mar 2006 Posts: 1,703 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Mar 2006 Posts: 1,703 | had my sons graduation party sunday, spent memorial day cleanin up the aftermath in the morning, took the 52 out for the rest of the day for some cruisin & visited my grandparents and other family memebers graves and planted fresh flowers and did some general clean-up on there headstones etc... | | | | Joined: Apr 2004 Posts: 886 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Apr 2004 Posts: 886 | Went to the Norwich Car Show Saturday with 3 of my 4 boys. At 61, it pretty much of an ordeal crawling around on your back for the better part of a day but it was rewarding to see it finished. One more thing off the list. Found a really obscure Native American graveyard by accident while the wife and I were riding the Harley, we spent about an hour counting the Veterans there from WW1-WW2-Korea-and Nam. Wow, that was enlighting, there were 63 Vets there all with flags. Thanks for serving!

My son home from A&M and my son in law home from Iraq helped me and we got a ton done. We finished most of the wiring, just waiting on fenders for lights, hanging the split looms and hooking up the senders. Under the dash we have power to radio and heater/air power lines waiting for those accessories. We also drilled and hooked up the door poppers for the interior lights.

Your work inspires me to get to work installing my new Mar-K wooden bed replacment kit I bought 3 weeks ago. There's always something to do on these old trucks!!
