I am lusting after a '39 to '46 1/2 truck. Worked on a '51 today for a friend and the shop talk got around to the passenger compartment size on these years of trucks. My buddy says they are small inside and I would be a tight fit. Well Ok, I'm 6'1" and need a diet bad at a tad less than 300 big ones. It's the beer with all that shop talk. So am I to big to fit into my want-to-be-mine truck? Thanks

I am betting you will fit. While there is not a whole bunch of adjustment, the stock seat does adjust some.

If you found one without the tank under the seat, there is probably even more room or you could change the seat out so every thing that belongs in the cab would fit.

Same heigth but about half a hundred less. The very best thing I did on my 41 was a small diameter tilt column from a 71 chevy van and mounted as close to the dash as allowed. Just 2" is huge when sliding under the wheel. Could have gained more with an aftermarket smaller wheel.

I do know that I don't have enough room in my 46, but I have Jeep seats in mine, and they sit forward a little bit from where the stock seat sat. I'm 5'11" tall and weigh somewhere in the neighborhood of 220 lbs.

Though, If I get much fatter, that Pontiac steering wheel is going to cause problems.

i heard the 41-46 cads are 6 inches narrower than the 47-54 style, and are 8 inches shorter too, i don't know if this is true, but looking at my 49 compared to my cousin's 46 it might be

When my seat is all the way back I can not reach the pedals, let alone see the starter, but then I'm only 5'-9

The 41-46 cabs are smaller, but I dont know if they affect that much due to where they are smaller, definatly more narrow. Im 6' and only about 170. No problem fitting into either sizes of trucks. One thing to think about is defiantly changing the column. If your big or heavy set, the old columns are solid while a newer column has that collapsable part so if you got in a front end accident the chances of you getting your chest crushed would go down substantially. Im not worried about that to much, but if I had a little less room between me and the column I might be. Just a thought.

i think you would fit fine. Especially if you found one with (or installed your own) tilt column.

get a caddy telescoping/tilt column, and you can put it in real deep...

I've got a 39, and although it's not a tight fit, i have to slip in under the column... 70" 190lbs.

my son is 6'3" and he "fits" in there, but he only weighs about 145lbs.

I am 6'7" and about 265 and I can drive my 51 with no problem. Haven't found a vehicle yet that fits.

I'm 5-4 and about 150 these days. I think my cab is small. However, I've also sat three across so it is really bigger than it feels. I like the fact that I can reach the pedals without adjusting the seat, but I'm not to up close and personal with the steering wheel. In terms of the height, It' fine for me as long as I remember that speed bumps actually work against older trucks.

Mine's all stock, but with a tilt column and the other things discussed you certainly could make it work.

i managed to put 4 in the cab of my 49 one time(4th guy was sitting on far passanger's lap)but it got us where we need to go

when I had my 38 tagged no problem at 6'1" 205 . no problem moving it around the yard at 240 now

i have a 39 with a s-10 seat on top of the seat mounts. i am 6"2' 280lbs and all i need to do is put ny right leg in and then my left, then duck my head. no problem!

I'm same height and when I last parked the '41 I weighed about 175. Like you Beltfed, the years have taken a toll and I now push 210. I don't recall having a problem before and if memory serves me right there was plenty of room between the wheel and my gut. At first I thought your topic was refering to the size of the truck :blat:
