I just saw one of the Futureliners bring 4.1 million, with a 454 motor, at the B-J auction. Where is all this money hiding? There sure isn't that much around here.

And to think you guys thought my guess of a $1.75 million was outrageous, although $4 mil is.

pretty outrageous bidding and prices today. seems to be a small group of bidders today, i want to know how and where these guys came by all of this spare cash.

fyi, bald dude spent 1,125,000 for a 70 chevelle factory drag car(it had been "converted" to a street car) earlier in the evening. only thing i can think is he's gettin a divorce and she gotta pay the credit card bill!!!dude has spent 5.2 mil. on two vehicles

Maybe he's putting all his money into cool stuff. Probably lives in a pickup camper in a Wal-Mart parking lot someplace...close to his temp-controlled warehouse.

red - that would be one sweet camper. the driver seat is ten feet off the ground, truckers would look up, way up, to you. i think that the few guys who end up doing a lot of the buying are in the minority at the auction. they do spend a lot and are on the television a lot. but we do not see all of the hundreds of us "little people" spending less than $50,000 on all of the "not desireable" vehicles. it is just the way that they broadcast, it is more exciting to watch the big money rides go up for sale and it just so happens that only a few people can afford a 5 million dollar bus. but it does make for good television, we are not watching a real for real play by play of all the auction, just the main stuff. that being said i like to see the ice cream guy and leather jacket guy go at it for a million dollar car. it is fun, but i think that there is a lot going on that we miss, a lot of smaller and less important to ratings auctions.

I didn't see the auctuion but on the website it list a GMC 401 V6 as the power plant, but that was when it was restored the first time. click on the 2nd video in this page and you'll even see that GMC V6....

I saw a Futureliner at the ATHS national show in Auburn a few months ago.
Does anyone know if it is the same one that just sold?

the commentary said seller was hoping for 600,000 bet he's a happy fellow

Correct me if I'm wrong but I thought the bald guy only went up to 4 mil and another guy bought the GM Futureliner for 4.1 mil.

I think the bidders are part of a massive drug ring. Nobody around here has that kind of money to spend on vehicles

They announced later in the show (right after the Bobby Allison Dodge Daytona sold) that there was confusion with the bid.
The Futureliner will go to the same person that bought the Pontiac concept, which is fitting since they were both on the Parade of Progress Tour together.

Why are all these GM concept cars suddenly going up for auction? Is GM so broke, they need to sell off their history to make a buck? I hope these cars were private owned and part of GM's stash. Sad if its not.

The Futureliner sold for $4M even, and the '70 LS6 ragtop Chevelle sold for $1.15M. The Hemicuda (yes, that's how it's supposed to be written!) sold for $2M. The bald ice-cream guy with the girl on his lap bought the bus and the Chevelle, plus a couple of less expensive rides Saturday night. Did he also somehow end up with the Pontiac, too???

The GM concept cars have all been in private hands for quite a few years. GM's plan for concepts was to destroy them after their usefulness was gone, not keep them around for posterity. At the time a concept is created, it's just another car to the corporation.

There is a link to one of the several surviving Futurliners over on the Inliners home page (inliners.org). Seems they came originaly with a 302 Jimmy motor and they got hooked up with Inliners for help with parts etc. Check out this link, tons of neat history and info.

Thanks for clearing that up. I watched it all day waiting for that Futurliner to be sold.After it was sold,I was told I wasn't watching that B-J auction for the rest of the night.

Just got in from attending the Barrett Jackson auction.
Man ! Did we have a Blast !

It was great to be there to see the Futureliner off.
Another record has been broken.
I wonder what Barrett Jackson is gonna do to top itself next year?

Just think also on that futureliner the buyer also had to pay another 320,000 to Barrett Jackson Commission don't know if there is also a sellers commission paid to them

The buyers and sellers EACH pay eight percent, so B-J made $640K for about five minutes work.

to have bought that Puppy The Stovebolt roster would have to all pooled $450 each. WOW.
