Never really have liked the look of two different style of stock mirrors. Interested to hear what everyones using...pictures would be great!!

The mirror was cracked, and I replaced it with a 4" round mirror I scored in a box with a bunch of other junk from the auction for a buck.
I dont have a mirror on the passenger side. The rearview mirror.. don't know if it's stock, but it looks like it is.. it's kind of narrow, and hard to really get a full view out the back window, so i'll probably replace it with something a little wider.
an idea is only stupid if you think about it rationally.

try a parts store and look at replacement mirrors... or check if they have a catalog, Then you can flip through it and check 'em out.
Try google.com image search for your model truck and see what comes up.
just a few ideas...

One problem is that the center bolt rusts easily.. ya think they'd use stainless!! Also added a 3" peep to drivers side. Helps get over the side mount spare. Put in an interior day/night mirror from one of the catalogs... it pretty much sucks. It really doesn't do the "night" part of it's function. | | | | Joined: Sep 2003 Posts: 2,384 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Sep 2003 Posts: 2,384 | Originally posted by Larry Bear: I have round mirrors on both sides. Same deal here on two diff trucks, guess there's no stainless in China,,Brian | | | | Joined: Dec 2002 Posts: 571 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Dec 2002 Posts: 571 | I had 4X6 mirrors on the 49. Looked kind of goofy. The PO put a driver side arm on the passenger side so the mirror was right behind the post. So, I ordered the correct arm for the pass side and some round mirrors. I tried to put on the pass side arm and the PO must have drilled the holes in the wrong place cause I still couldn't see it. I think I'm gonna weld up the holes on the pass side and just keep the driver side mirror. I have a 5 window cab, so I really don't need a pass side mirror. | | | | Joined: Feb 2002 Posts: 2,877 Socket Breaker | Socket Breaker Joined: Feb 2002 Posts: 2,877 | Originally posted by Larry Bear: I have round mirrors on both sides. When I first got the beast I was thinking "It's not a REAL truck, it's just a pick-em-up." After about a week of driving it I revised my opinion and decided that a 66 GMC 3/4 ton long-bed with a 292 most certainly IS a real truck-'cause it darn sure wasn't going to tolerate being driven any other way. So I replaced the half-assed WC's it had with proper full loops plus brace and separate mirrors all in stainless.

Seeing as the round one is cracked, I'm going to have it replaced with an "Objects in Mirror are closer than they appear" mirror. That one is crappy for backing up.
I have no mirror on the inside, but I am going to see if I can score one from an AD... or maybe a later one. If not, I'll probably buy one from American Classic Truck Parts. They've got a nice metal one that looks like it could have been in my truck originally. | | | | Joined: Dec 2004 Posts: 322 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Dec 2004 Posts: 322 | What are west coast mirrors? are they the big ones that run vertical and attatch above and below window? I'm kinda thinking of those. I have a 3-window and need all the help seeing I can get.

I am using mirrors from a Volvo 240 mounted on chrome stock arms. I had to grind off the original mounts, but since they are solid aluminium, plishing the the cut is no big deal. I used the tensioner screw to mount the mirror. The shape is similar to the original pre-54 tail lights, but 4 times the size. Look nice.
