At least you have fenders to straighten. Nice trucks, Scott | | | | | Joined: Jul 2006 Posts: 584 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jul 2006 Posts: 584 | Thank you guys. Now I just wish I had more time to tinker. Spanky, it looks like you are trying to corner the market on COEs! Beautiful trucks guys!
I know where one of these 600 series GMC trucks is sitting, awesome condition, not running here in the middle of CA if anybody wants the lead. The hunt goes on here in CA. I came across 2 other 46 COEs and was excited, but distance worked to their benefit and once I arranged a meeting with their owner I found out they were previous "spray rigs" for orange trees....translation: beat to heck, welded on, no doors or windows etc. basically a reduced to neglected tractors.
I may end up with a couple of extra fenders if so I will get them into the swap area if somebody needs um.
Thought I would quickly tell you guys my bring home story....they aren't runnin. One of um showed up on a trailer, hauled by the guy I bought um from. He had it on a gooseneck trailer about waist hi...tall sucker. He said his winch brake was broken so it was going to have to "roll off". Well, I live on a 200 ft hill for starters....so I was the lucky "jockey" who got to ride it out. No seat. No brakes. Non-working clutch even if there was a seat. Soooo. I feel like I'm sitin' in a two story building, um correction, squating that is (no seat). Just like a classic roller coaster ride, I feel the slip axel trailer swaying slightly back and forth as the wheels moved forward and out from under the middle of the trailer. Then....clink...the horizon became a very good view of the ground and down I went like a shot. As I headed for our very steep driveway, my beautiful wife started tossing blocks and I began trying to turn a sharp 90 and did finally come to a stop. I wiped off the sweat, did a quick check of my drawers and everything was OK. LOL. Now their home and the fun starts. Seems like these old truck things are catching?? Things are changing...I seem to desire more... Why can't we just want one? See you guys later. | | | | | Joined: Nov 2005 Posts: 140 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Nov 2005 Posts: 140 | Is the old oarnge chevy by the coes yours also

Is it a COE also. | | | | | Joined: Jul 2006 Posts: 584 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jul 2006 Posts: 584 | Ya, it looks like the big one I saw among your treasures...almost identical (only light metalic blue). I couldn't see the back of your cab, but it is very wide, looks like factory welded in several spots using several panels to make the back of the cab, and has two windows in the back along with the corner ones just like yours. It is a 48 with paperwork. Quite long, probably longer than yours. It is maybe a 16 foot wheelbase. No real rust that I could see and the sheetmetal is awesome. Steps look like a factory job of older diamond plate stuff. Does have a flatbed on the back that is even longer! Better have a helocopter to get it to NC. Sweet truck, just a little too large for me. Price....I have a friend that offered 200 (older lady whos husband recently died and needs to clean up). I don't know that she will take it, but she does need it gone. Let me know if anybody want the number. I don't think she would mind. Probably should be a 1 at a time email thing if anybody is interested as opposed to putting her number on the net without her knowing it. | | | | | Joined: Dec 2003 Posts: 1,144 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Dec 2003 Posts: 1,144 | Like the unloading scene great mental imagery | | | | | Joined: Feb 2002 Posts: 2,893 Socket Breaker | | Socket Breaker Joined: Feb 2002 Posts: 2,893 | | | | | | Joined: Nov 2005 Posts: 140 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Nov 2005 Posts: 140 |

I looked for an Art Deco for 8 months, driving around covering rural countrysides with my wife like we were plowing fields, back and forth, binoculars in the car everywhere we went, and couldn't find a thing. Now in the last 2 months, I have found 4?? What happened? Here is a picture of the most recent...Watson. Awesome 41 early short wheelbase and pretty well optioned. Oh, and I have to say, I do have the coolest wife. She has been completely supportive throughout the whole thing. They say it was just a "crushed aorta" and I'm almost able to swallow comfortably again..... http://www.redemerconcepts.com/truck/watson.jpg | | | | | Joined: Jun 2005 Posts: 125 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Jun 2005 Posts: 125 | Nice looking trucks, they should keep you busy for awhile! The grilles on Everett and Watson look really nice, very clean. And it looks like you're cornering the market on Art Deco COEs.

I have the same addiction. Although, I am not into the COE's yet. I am going to finally set aside some time this fall and post mine in the gallery and update my profile.
It's kinda like poker, you got a nice pair, but you'd rather have three of a kind.
Good luck, and keep us posted.

I suspect I will sell several as I really only waannneeed..a couple. I would like to have a truck to use for fun, dump etc. I think I will go 350/700R4, PS, PB with this fun truck but keep it completely stock looking right down to the shifter linkage. We'll have to see if I can get everything to work right. I would like to completely restore another like you have done, 100% original. A third idea is to make a tool storage shed out of a third (rust bucket I have my eyes on) fashioned after the Jeepers Creepers Van. Just a static van/shed on wheels.
John, what a great analogy with the poker statement. I'm gonna steal that one...neat! and right on the money. | | | | | Joined: Nov 2000 Posts: 1,399 Camp Commandant | | Camp Commandant Joined: Nov 2000 Posts: 1,399 | Well, whatever way you go, I'm sure you will have a blast and you have guite a collection already (on your way to a full house or 5 of a kind maybe!). On another note maybe I could ask you for a favor. If you noticed when you were checking out my pic's, I sort of fashioned the cable assembly for the reverse shifter on my truck. To this day I have never seen the way it wouls have come from the factory, either the assemby at the shifter or how it connects to the transmission. When you get a chance I would love some pic's of this set up. No hurry. Again, congrats on a very cool collection. | | | | | Joined: Dec 2002 Posts: 2,549 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Dec 2002 Posts: 2,549 | All this Art Deco COE talk, & pictures here lately,(along with my recent purchase of a Art Deco, conventional Wrecker) has got me wanting one for the first time. I've been strictly a '47-'55 COE guy through the years(with the exception of a few '55-'57, & '60-'66 LCF's I had). I went to look at a '41-'46 COE a week ago, that I was told about, that was only 10 miles away. Problem was, I couldn't get anywhere near it, for the overgrowth of weeds, Kudzu vines, & everything else that was in the way. I'll have to wait for a couple of Frost to come, before I can get to it. Winter time, is the best time around here, for Old car, & truck rescue missions. I'd rather have a Heavy Duty Art Deco GMC COE, if possible. I want to install a Antique Heavy Duty Holmes W35 Wrecker unit on one. I'm thinking about a 1939 Heavy Duty GMC 600 series COE, that i've seen, but we're far apart on the price right now. | | | | | Joined: Dec 2003 Posts: 975 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Dec 2003 Posts: 975 | Spanky,
If you ever get up this way, I know of a conventional Art Deco with a wrecker body on back. It spent it's life in a "junk" yard. The seller could not find the title. The new owner does not want to put up the bond for the title, so this running truck is just sitting in his back yard. New owner spent a pile of money on new brakes on all four corners. I have looked this truck over and it is nice shape.
No..it is not mine..I am not sellling it. I wish I could buy it, but would have to sleep in it if I did. | | | | | Joined: Dec 2002 Posts: 2,549 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Dec 2002 Posts: 2,549 | Hey, 46 in progress, Get a picture of that Wrecker for me, if you can. This seems to be good hunting due to all the agriculture I guess. They are still quite hard to find anywhere you go since they didn't make that many really relative to the conventional ones.
I've got COE eyes now, it's a disease. Whats funny is old horse trailers get me every time now when I'm out looking. I think the rounded fronts of those type trailers look like the Deco COE hoods. Never fails...that split second excitement...nope...horse trailer. | | | | | Joined: Sep 2006 Posts: 15 Junior Member | | Junior Member Joined: Sep 2006 Posts: 15 | Originally posted by Tomcoe: I'm in California. My Great GrandFather had a pasture full of coe's as a kid I always wanted one but when he passed my gold diggin aunt sold all of them for scrap he must of had a dozen some of them were complete and some had been parted out but there was enough there to build at least 6 complete trucks. | | | | | Joined: Jul 2006 Posts: 584 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jul 2006 Posts: 584 | Bill, I never replied to your favor. Sure would be nice to go back in time and do a COE rescue mission wouldn't it?..or be the guy buying them for scrap? | | | | | Joined: Nov 2000 Posts: 1,399 Camp Commandant | | Camp Commandant Joined: Nov 2000 Posts: 1,399 | Thanks Tom, whenever you get a chance-no hurry. My arrangement works, but it would be cool to have it original. I have had that thought about going back in time and coe's too. How about standing at the end of the assembly line watching those beautiful art deco's foll off. O.K. I'm awake now. "A pasture full of Cabovers", man that just kills me.
