One more comment won't hurt I guess......
I like a I6. It's a good engine with good torque at low RPM. I wouldn't discount a truck with a V8 283 in it. I am a big fan of 283's. Everybody has a 350. I love the smaller SBC's. The original V8 Chevy's are very desirable and can get good mileage too. The trouble with mileage starts with everyone's need for 4 barrel carbs. IMHO.....A 283 with a 2 barrel works fine and has plenty of power for the Stovebolts and is a good engine for highway.
