My six cylinder experiences stopped with the 235, but the reality for me was that the V8 had more power and got better mileage than the six by several mpg. This was basically because of driving technique. I was young, and with the six I drove with the pedal on the floor almost all the time. With the V8 I could achieve the same rate of acceleration with far less throttle. That and four barrel aftermarket carburetors were far easier to tune and lean out than the factory carbs on the inlines.
