grigg, when i heated the washers i let them cool normally, i didnt quench them. some of the scale is a bit tough to get off, even with scothbrite. i may try and reheat them and then quench.
but while i am out of the house this morning, i am gonna see if chevrolet has the washers witht he grooves in them, hoping to make it seal better than the flat autozone washers.
never really heard of spot facing or phonographic finish, and will admit i was a grene horn machinist, before i got laid off.
