A machine shop where I traded in California had a section of 4" driveshaft tubing hung over one of their lathes, with 3 full turns twisted into it. It looked like an hourglass! It had come from a Peterbilt tractor with a 425 HP Cat engine that was trying to pull a bogged-down set of double trailers out of a rice field, loaded with harvsted rice. The driver had already twisted one shaft out of it, and this one was the replacement. When this one was damaged, they installed a super-thick chrome-moly tube and changed drivers. The trailers came out of the muck that time!
