“Regarding the journals that are worn oval- - - - -don't most service manuals recommend MEASURING the crankshaft journal with a micrometer, and having acceptable limits for "out of round" and "taper"????????

I would have shut down a lot of good running engines if I went strictly by the book.
One can squeeze a lot more mileage out of these if you’re creative.
