1. Are you saying the exciter wire is NOT connected to the ignition switch but is connected to the fuse panel "ACC" fuse/terminal?
2. Is your ignition switch THE original, an original style replacement or a universal?
3. When you added the bypass wire, was the bulb still involved? Installed in it's socket? Still "In the circuit", albeit in parallel ?

I am only asking these questions to be sure I understand and not to annoy you. Your experiment is important.
