I went with one wire alternators on both my 38 and 53. A 6v one wire on the 38 while I converted the 53 to 12v. As noted above the brackets are readily available although not inexpensive. On both vehicles I connected the heavy wire that connects to the voltage regulator BAT terminal to the output lug on the alternator so the ammeter is in play.
