Being born broke and cheap I haven't completely whipped the broke part but have definitely worked on the being cheap part. This has led to generators/regulators being completely abandoned as both are way more expensive than a lifetime guarantee alternator plus the alternator is nearly trouble free for years and parts are everywhere. All my equipment and vehicles have 3 wire alternators with just a wire on the BAT post and #2 terminal. All self energize with a quip blip to 2500 rpms so nothing needed on then #1 terminal. Friend with rebuild shop saves ones that self energize when testing for me.
Is this a different alternator setup than what the other fellows are describing here? I’m a little lost.
