I understand completely- - - -my first restoration was on a 1947 Mercury convertible back in 1962, when it was not all that old. I still had a lot of frustration with rusty, stripped, and broken bolts! The trick to drilling out a small screw is a very solid setup in a drill press vise, and a well-centered pilot hole made with a very small machinist's center drill that won't wander around. Then open up the hole a step at a time with larger drill bits until a tap can be used to clean up the threads. It's an exercise in patience and persistence for sure!
