I took my starter to Trapp Generator and auto electric in Pottstown, PA to be rebuilt and they suggested the high torque field coils. I guess they have more windings than the stock ones which gives the starter more torque. They said they do alot of antique and classic starters and generators for cars and motorcycles. They knew exactly what I had when I walked in and turned it around the next day.
The starter spins the engine fast so it starts great. I have a friend with a '48 Plymouth and it spins faster than his engine which has the stock field coils.
