Eight volts from the generator would not charge an eight volt battery. If any battery only reads its nominal voltage, it is at least 50% discharged, so charging at that rate would accomplish nothing. The only people who resort to eight volt batteries are those who have been unable to diagnose a starting problem,IMO. There would have to be a voltage drop problem if the six volt lamps have a normal lifespan on an eight volt system.
