Again, I'm not an auto-electrician, but I have read about folks on this very forum who have full fielded their generators into a staggering 20 volts. Your generator has the capacity to charge the 8 volt battery easily. I know you have dinked with your voltage regulator just recently, so adjusting it for the increased charge rate should be a piece of cake.
If anyone can pull this off properly, it would be the Sandwich Man!
