Also reinstalled the axles. It seems that I have now have a larger backlash then I had before my work. It is about 1/8 to 3/16 of an inch. Any ideas how this happened? And suggestions on how to fix it?

I made no adjustment. What I think backlash is, is when you hold the axles firm and then rotate the u-joint coming out the differential. There is about a 1/8 to 1/4 of a inch of play.
It seemed less before I fixed the gasket.
