Finally got the 261 block and bell housing mounted on the "not so universal" HF engine stand.
I primed and painted the assembly, Detroit Deisel Alpine Green.
Hopefully today I can run a hone through the cylinders and begin installing a crank and some pistons!
Looking to get the gasket set tomorrow (fingers crossed).

Didn't get anything done to the truck but I used it to haul enough lumber and drywall to build a 12 x 24 room in my garage. I got some slack-jaw looks while loading all that lumber in the truck.

Maiden Voyage a success!! I have worked on my '49 3100 all winter, replaced the whole brake system head to toe, rebuilt the cylinder head, new radiator, starter, etc.
Started it up, let it warm up checking for leaks, pulled it out of the garage & went for a 10 minute drive, no issues, everthing worked as it should! Not going to win any races with it that's for sure, however it was a blast.

My son and I got busy today putting the bed together. We expect the truck back from the paint shop in the next few days and wanted to have the bed ready to bolt on. When we get it put together we will take the boards off and put on 4 coats of Spar Urethane and soak the ends.

Took the 261 block back to the machine shop and watched them (with my arms folded and foot tapping) correct my cam bearing orientation.
It's been one step forward and three steps backward lately.
Maybe some assembly this weekend...

Changed the fuel pump, put on the dual action one for extra vacuum. Now it won't start, even though gas is coming into the carb.

got the points installed and set. tried to time it but I cant find the darn timing mark, so I vacuum timed it instead. sounds much better now but still ticks a bit. I need to get out there and adjust the valves this weekend.
made a bracket to hold the 12-volt tail light bulbs farther back in the houseing so that the lense will fit nicely. One more to do. Should be a productive weekend. Might pull out my 28 if the weather is nice.

Installed the crankshaft and assembled the new pistons in the 261. I also bought a bypass filter on Ebay.
Getting closer...
You know, I'm thinking I should consider giving my truck a "name" when it's finally put back on the road...
Ah! I got it already!

I just finished replacing the third power steering pump. The truck has not been driven except to drive it out of the garage to keep my wife from going ballistic because of the open pipes. Hopefully this one won't leak and I'll be able to get my exhaust finished.

I removed my draft tube and intalled a PCV valve. Worked out great. I can put my hand over the valve cover and feel some heavy vacuum. This will help a lot since I do a lot of sitting in traffic now that Im in California. Also keeps some water out of the oil.

nice job. I have a 53 3600 annd am at a sticking point. Forgive me for not knowing how to properly describe it but the nut that you have to take off to change the seal (and determines the back lash) it has a cotter pin that is between the differential 3rd member and the universal joint. I measured it and it looks like an 1 5/8 but it did not fit, I am not sure if my socket wasn't thin wall enough or I had the wrong size. Any help would be great. Here is the picture.

I have been trying to assemble my MarK bed and reached step 23 that involves drilling a 1-9/16" countersink using a 1-9/16" Forstner bit. The closest size I have in my set is 1-5/8” which it seems is just a bit too large. I found a 1-9/16” bit on line at http://www.mlcswoodworking.com/ however though the freight is free it will take 10 days to get here. Well, I guess I have enough to install to keep me busy until then, windshield wipers and elec motor, radio, inside trim, door glass, vent windows, air conditioner, etc, etc, & etc..

The Stove Bolt Forum is a great place to SHARE information helpful to everyone who is involved in an old truck project. That old adage," a picture is worth a thousand words" is certainly true here. Anyone that can operate a computer can operate a $40 Walmart digital camera. Be proud of your "Bolt" and of your work; Share some pictures. Give as much as you take.

welded up some new brackets for the tail light bulbs. I used the stock backet, installed a two point light in the top and kept the single in the lower. z-ed the bracket to set the lower light back enough to allow the lens cover to fit.
I think maybe I should have just bought one already done. grin

Woooohoooo, got the hood on the panel today. Well, sort of. It is sticking up at the back about 2 good inches but it'll have to wait till another day to get adjusted. I was going to take a pic but had to pull the club trailer to a cruise-in.
Maybe tomorrow I can get a shot or two posted.

Earlier in the week got the brakes bled and freed up a stuck caliper, changed the oil and filter and determined that my power steering box has a leak that can't be repaired, so ordered a new one (okay, the local repair shop did all this). Then yesterday I got my muffler and tailpipe put on, mounted the hood and new chrome handles, and spent several hours trying to figure out which belt(s) was squealing. Tightened 'em, loosened 'em, burned my arm on the radiator tank, applied belt dressing, removed the belt dressing with brake cleaner, tightened, loosened, removed one at a time, put them back on one at a time, burned my arm on the radiator tank again, took them off again, put them back on, left them loose, no squeal finally - for now.

Also suspicious of my brand new (Chinese no doubt) ignition switch causing a battery drain and it's also starting to engage the starter solenoid when I go to turn it off.

And, mounted my '46 plate.

Then went for a spin around the neighborhood, no windshield makes for a breezy ride.

As I mentioned above I finally got the hood out of the floor after it laying there for 2 years. Now the grandkids are happy as I will not be shouting at them "don't get near the hood"!!!
As promised here is a couple pics.....and boy is my work cut out for me adjusting the hood. I've read all the "how to's" but I may ask again!!!
