Hey guys probably a stupid question but what is the round tube on some of the fifties model cars and trucks usually on the passanger side? I imagine is some kind of AC for back in the day but don't know for sure. I would love to have one of these on my 1950 3600. Thanks

If you are referring to the device that attaches to the passenger window, it is an evaporative cooler. If you want one, try an ad in the swap meet. Parts requests are not allowed in General Truck Talk.

It works on the same principle as an evaporative cooler for a house. Air is forced through a wetted pad which humidifies and cools the air.

Thanks cletis I appreciate the info. I have never seen an evaporative cooler so this is new old for me. Do you have to wet this pad everytime before you take a cruise?

Swamp coolers! You couldn't go fast enough to cool things down. If you could, the mold would kill you.

Even with all their faults, they do look cool. And if you find one for sale, you'd better have a strong grip on your wallet cause it's going to hurt to buy it.
