Hi Fellow Bolters!
I know it is hard to diagnos things w/o seeing the vehicle, but my 235 has a intermittent miss on acceleration. The engine only has about 250 miles on the overhaul, new plug wires, coil, dist.cap, rotor, plugs, etc. I also have cleaned and sealed the fuel tank, and have an in-line fuel filter on the truck. It don't seem to miss when it idles, and isn't a constant miss. There isn't any backfire like when a coil has gone bad, or a coil wire is broke. I also switched out the coil for another new coil just to be sure. I did the same with the coil wire. I know what the Chevy truck manual says to look for, but everything is new. Any thoughts?
Thanks!
KT

I had a cheap distributor cap that was bad right out of the box before. Other than that, it's kinda hard to diagnose without experiencing it first hand,
good luck,
Scott

I'd suspect points or condensor....maybe the distributor itself. I don't like points, so if it were mine, I'd put a Pertronix kit in it.

I had the same type of problem with my 64 292. I finally replaced the distributor with an HEI. No more problems. In my case the distributor bushings were worn (which contributoed to the problem), so it was easier for me to install the HEI than rebuild the distributor and install the Pertronix.

I looked at those Petronix kits, do they just drop right in? And, do I need to get their coil also? Mine is running just fine, but I think it's just a matter of time that I'll have to mess with the points...Thanks, Steve

If your distributor is in good working order, a pertronix would be a good choice. Keeps the original look. Takes about 10 min. to install. I have a Mallory coil, but any electronic coil will work.

Thanks to all who replied. Well, 48Bigtrucks, you have a point. I will switch out the cap and the condensor and see it that makes a difference.I may also check out those pertronix you all are refering to.
Thanks again!!!

About Pertronix. My dealer doesn't have them but has the Crane line. I bought one for a Mustang and this "10 minute install" was more like an hour. You have to remove the distributor on them F**ds.

Do you know where you can purchase a Pertronix kit for a '50 3100 (215 engine)? I've checked all of the on-line catalogs I know of and am coming up empty-handed. Thanks.

I think NAPA among others sell Pertronix, or give them a whistle at www.pertronix.com.

You know how to whistle, don't you?

Sorry, I could not find a "new post" link in the main forum, so I'm doing a reply.

I have a 4 bbl Quadra on my daughters 82 Olds Delta 88 307 Y engine (not orig carb, non-electronic) A friend helped me rebuild it about 4 years ago. About a week ago, it would not start without pouring gas into the carb, then would run fine. The bottom plugs were sealed when it was rebuilt. I changed the fuel pump, and after that it would not remain running after pouring gas into the carb. I removed the fuel line and it is pumping fuel, I removed the fuel filter even though it looked OK, still will not remain running. I do not see any jets of fuel when the accel is depressed. I noticed that the accelerator pump rod was stuck down. I cleaned and loosened up but still not running. Do you think its the Accel pump or float? Why would switching the fuel pump make it completely cease to run?

Thanks
Mike Glavin

You may have too use a latter dist. Like from a 235 to put a petronics on. The crane is agood system but doesn,t cover that model. You might take a hard look at the plugs. I,ve got bad ones out of the box or cracked one putting them in. If the ignition is good you might look for lean carberation or slow timing. smile

Maybe it is the accelerter pump in your carb, you did not say any thing about rebuilding it.
