I am getting the exhaust ran tommorrow and was wondering any of you guys have any suggestions on what you would change about yours or what is best. I was wondering if i should dump before the rear end or after or does it make that big of a difference. Thanks in advance. | | | | | Joined: Jun 2004 Posts: 8,597 Riding in the Passing Lane | | Riding in the Passing Lane Joined: Jun 2004 Posts: 8,597 | I use 30" glasspacks. It has a nice pleasant sound without being noisey. I like to exit straight out below the bumper with chrome tips. Sounds & looks cool to me but i,m an old man from the old school. They say money can't buy happiness. It can buy old Chevy trucks though. When I drop my air bags, they scrape the pavement. I use the rams horns also with a balance tube between the pipes just ahead of the 40 flowmasters. I exit thru the roll pan beneath the tail gate. Bad Idea, the exhaust has stained the whole tail gate from pearl white to a pearl beige. and I'm not burning oil. If I had it to do over I would exit in front of the rear wheels. | | | | | Joined: Aug 2004 Posts: 45 Junior Member | | Junior Member Joined: Aug 2004 Posts: 45 | Thanks guys i plan on dropping so i'll take that in consideration. I thought of the rear wheels but want the wheels through mudd and such all over the pipes, reason i was thinking of just dumping them? | | | | | Joined: Mar 2004 Posts: 3,068 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2004 Posts: 3,068 | I would run the 40 series Flowmasters as far back in the system as possible and run the tailpipes to the rear bumper, Scott | | | | | Joined: May 2004 Posts: 920 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: May 2004 Posts: 920 | Going straight out the back makes it more quiet in the cab. You can also blow exhaust on those who tailgate you. | | | | | Joined: Dec 2003 Posts: 1,554 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Dec 2003 Posts: 1,554 | My 55 exits at the rear bumper, while my 65 exits just ahead of the rear wheels. Flowmasters on the 55 and turbos on the 65. Its really just where you like to have them exit, both ways work just fine. | | | | | Joined: Apr 2006 Posts: 172 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Apr 2006 Posts: 172 | mine exits in front of the rear wheels with super 40 mufflers. i think it looks pretty sick, i literally just got inside from putting the tips on, and it sounds amazing. | | | | | Joined: Apr 2004 Posts: 703 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Apr 2004 Posts: 703 | My only suggestion would be to consider what you're going to do with the truck.
I like them out the back, or out the side behind the rear tire.
My exhaust guy told me that I should consider the use of a vehicle, i.e. if you're going to pull a trailer, you would likely blow soot etc. all over the front of the trailer, if you went straight back and out. | | | | | Joined: Jan 2007 Posts: 116 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Jan 2007 Posts: 116 | my 64 has straight pipes that come out in front of the rear wheels with the 2.5in around 24inlomg slant tips turned side ways an my tips were FREE

You can see it pretty clear in this pic... http://inlinethumb40.webshots.com/6119/2088964880100692845S500x500Q85.jpg Not for everyone, but I like it. It is loud in the cab though. I am going to some DynaMat type thing when I redo the carpet.

Straight out the back and it sound nice. 1 7/8 is more than enough diameter for pipes on a sbc. Put a crossover in the center somewhere. | | |
