My friends and dad think im nuts, I think this is a deal. I found a 49 chev 1/2 ton. Its barn fresh but the body on the truck is excellent. Its complete running when parked which was a few years ago. Seat is not original, needs glass, rear bumper and probably a ton of other work. It looks like a really solid truck from the other crap I have seen. Seller inherited from his dad in 1980 and he was the original owner. Is 1000 Canadian to much for this ? What do you think

That sounds fair if it is free of rust.

If the truck is as complete as you say then no. Remember it's all the little things that add up quickly when you start a project. If the engine and running gear are solid and the body doesn't require a lot of replacement panels then a $1000.00 might not be to high. Try making a lower offer and go from there. Good Luck.

I picked up a 46 next door in Saskatchewan for 500 without a drivetrain but typically like around these parts if theres no rust and it's working than it sounds like a good deal. As the previous reply said see if you can get the price dropped a bit. Most of the expenses will be getting repro parts if you need them as most of the parts are only available state side but I heard theres lots of scrap dealers in Alberta that have all kinds of old truck parts cheap. Hope you get a good deal. Bob T

I got the same response from family and friends when I bought my project, but there aren't many $100 or even $500 projects out there anymore. Look at ebay. You won't find a $1,000 project with decent sheet metal on there. If you have the spare cash (along with a lot more to put into it), I'd say go for. Of course, I already did and have been working on it for the past 16 months. Some day I'll actually get to drive mine.

Im thinking im going to grab it. I posted a few adds online and havent had much luck for what im looking for. There are a few old car dealers but the guy wanted $2500 for 49 5 window with no running gear. I think the odometer was in the 70's.

Something to think about.....a $1k truck doesn't sound unreasonable, but have you taken into consideration all the factors that go into making one roadworthy? Your expertise, equipment, space and time, are much more critical factors than the initial capital outlay. As Red Green pointed out.....you've gotta be in it for the long haul. It isn't going to be a couple hundred bucks and a weekend to get it on the road safely. You'd be wise to have a plan, check out the critical upgrades and then see if you can afford a $1000. truck. Sometimes a little extra cash expenditure up front will save you big bucks down the road. Not every "great deal" turns out to be a great deal!!!

If you pay $1000 for the truck and you bring it home, will you miss the $1000 and wish you hadn't bought the truck? Don't buy it.

Or will you be thrilled to have the truck and not think about the $1000 again. Buy it.

$1000 is a good deal if the sheetmetal is good. I spent more than that on patch panels. Go for it!

1000.00 is not bad,if you know what you want the truck to be a daily driver or a show truck. And how many dollars you want to put in it,and if you wsnt the fun of doing it your self, you can spend alot of money to have it done.Restoring a truck should be fun and not a money pit. It what you want and can afford, both money and time, Good luck

IF the sheet metal is good buy it. If you change your mind you can sell the fenders and other parts to Stovebolters and make a few dollars! I've paid more than that for a truck and had to haul it home in pieces!! IF its as you say then don't let it get away....and if the guy wanted come down in buy it anyway. Don't let a few dollars stand in the way if you want the truck even if it means it has to sit a couple more months till you "replenish" your funds. Otherwise another one will be gone and the next one may not be so good!

VI,

I would purchase without hesitation. I paid a little more for a rusty truck, but love the heck out of it. I've put together a budget of $9,200.00 to rebuild the front end stock, install power steering, front disc brakes, purchasing a rebuilt 235, electric wipers, AC/heater unit, radiator, battery, new wiring, rebuilding the rear suspension, purchasing some fender patch panels, door patches, and a plethora of items from one of the reproduction vendors.

It adds up, but I have also acquired used items through the Stovebolt like rear glass, side emblems, hood emblems, and a neighbor is hooking me up with a front windshield. That's the fun part of restoring the beast. You meet some cool people and you acquire an avocation and a love for the hobby.

I say, go for it.

With a good solid body,it sounds like a great deal to me.Any time you buy something and you think you got a good deal and are happy with it,then you got a good deal.
