Seems like everything I fix has 2 or 3 repercussions. I really want to go back to tube tires right about now. I've just realized there's a 2" wide strip rubbed off on the inside of both front tires. The back tires are being rubbed by the Emergency Brake Cable and I just can't seem to bend those back to stay in place. I really regret having changed the tires - they are far to wide/fat for this truck.

What is the condition of your rear spring shackles?

I had a similar problem when I first purchased my truck. Tires rubbed... not on the emergency cable, but on the frame. Previous owner bought wider tires,in conjunction with old floppy shackles.

I replaced the shackles which helped. However, I got rid of the radials and I am currently running bias plys.

Connect a long spring to the cable and run it to the frame to hold the cable away from the tire,

does your e-brake work? if no do what i did-cut it off, i severed the cables right up next to backing plate, removed e-brake components, at first glance you wouldn't be able to tell of an modification

or sounds like you'll have to go back to the perious size tire

what was the original tire size?
I'm looking for oem sized whitewalls for my '58 GMC
shortbox stepside.
