on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: May 2003 Posts: 328 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: May 2003 Posts: 328 | I found a 1960 Chevy SWB for $300. It supposedly ran when they parked it (don't they all?). It has a 283 that will turn over by hand and a 3 speed on the column. The truck is pretty rusty for this area. It would need complete cab floor, front fenders, rocker panels, door bottoms, and the hood even has a spot of rust through. Only two tires hold air and the hub caps will fall apart when I try to remove them due to rust.
My thought is to buy it and try to make it a rough driver. I will keep it if my wife will let me. Otherwise, I would like to turn it for a profit. What do you guys think?

But, does it have enough structural integrity to make it even a rough driver? Rough is one thing, but is there enough there to even work with or salvage some parts from? | | | | | Joined: Dec 2002 Posts: 3,445 Moderator - The Electrical Bay | | Moderator - The Electrical Bay Joined: Dec 2002 Posts: 3,445 | If it's a virgin 283 it's worth the bucks, they are getting harder to find all the time.

Heck, I have an IRWIPI 1960 swb that I'll get running and drive down there. I'll get the Texas 1960 running and tow mine home with it if I like it. | | | | | Joined: Dec 2006 Posts: 184 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Dec 2006 Posts: 184 | Pictures please!
For $300 I would think you could part it out and make a profit but I'm no expert on anything post 46. | | | | | Joined: Mar 2004 Posts: 3,068 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2004 Posts: 3,068 | A usable short/fleetside is worth that in itself. If the 283 is complete and the running gear is solid it may be worth the price. If you wave $200.00 cash I'll bet you could take it home...

The weather here has been wild with several inches of rain falling in a matter of a couple of hours and tornados all around us. It looks like Saturday afternoon and all day Sunday are going to be clear.

Hood hinges, dash stuff, window lifts (if they're not worn out), some mechanical stuff, bumpers and grille if they're straight. Things that will make it worth getting: Custom chrome, any options at all, lights, etc. etc. etc.
The point about it being worth that much for the scrap price was pretty good. Strip it and scrap the carcass.
These trucks are really bad about rusting in the roof above the windshield--if that's solid, the cab corners and floors might be overlooked by someone else.
