I found a 1960 Chevy SWB for $300. It supposedly ran when they parked it (don't they all?). It has a 283 that will turn over by hand and a 3 speed on the column. The truck is pretty rusty for this area. It would need complete cab floor, front fenders, rocker panels, door bottoms, and the hood even has a spot of rust through. Only two tires hold air and the hub caps will fall apart when I try to remove them due to rust.

My thought is to buy it and try to make it a rough driver. I will keep it if my wife will let me. Otherwise, I would like to turn it for a profit. What do you guys think?

Why don't you but it and list it on ebay. You might make a couple of bucks.

why don't you buy it and then sell the 283 and tran to me for $50 and then you would only be $250 in the hole!!!

Just from a break even stand point: The motor and trans make it sound okay. But, does it have enough structural integrity to make it even a rough driver? Rough is one thing, but is there enough there to even work with or salvage some parts from?

If it's a virgin 283 it's worth the bucks, they are getting harder to find all the time.

Throw us some pictures. I bought the Erwhipee from pictures without kicking the tires.

Heck, I have an IRWIPI 1960 swb that I'll get running and drive down there. I'll get the Texas 1960 running and tow mine home with it if I like it.

Pictures please!

For $300 I would think you could part it out and make a profit but I'm no expert on anything post 46.

A usable short/fleetside is worth that in itself.

Are you just going to leave us hanging. If the 283 is complete and the running gear is solid it may be worth the price. If you wave $200.00 cash I'll bet you could take it home...

I am going to try to look at it again this weekend. The weather here has been wild with several inches of rain falling in a matter of a couple of hours and tornados all around us. It looks like Saturday afternoon and all day Sunday are going to be clear.

It's only $300.00. Ask yourself, what is a memory worth. You buy that truck and figure out what to do with it later.

There's just not a whole lot on these trucks to part out! Especially if the sheetmetal is rotten.
Hood hinges, dash stuff, window lifts (if they're not worn out), some mechanical stuff, bumpers and grille if they're straight.
Things that will make it worth getting: Custom chrome, any options at all, lights, etc. etc. etc.

The point about it being worth that much for the scrap price was pretty good. Strip it and scrap the carcass.

These trucks are really bad about rusting in the roof above the windshield--if that's solid, the cab corners and floors might be overlooked by someone else.
