I called the landfill about getting rid of my original 17" split-rims with horrible tires and they said it would be only $12.50 per cubic yard like all garbage. It surprised me that it wasn't an exorbitant per tire charge.

How much do you guys pay to dispose of tires? Are they making enough on the steel to make it cheaper?

here it costs about $5 to drop off the tire only, they won't take mounted ones - I'd suspect yours would just be landfilled if they say "like all garbage", can't imagine any landfill would have someone dismounting any old thing

just toss them off the side of the road, that is free... just kidding, i've got a ditch full of nasty old tires and rims... but it keeps the erosion down.

I pay $2.50 per tire New York State Waste Management fee.If I scrap a car they deduct 200 pounds from the total weight for tires.A few years ago the local Boy Scouts were collecting old tires for an erosion control project they were doing. Was able to unload a bunch for a good cause.

Last time i disposed of tires, Wal Mart charged $.70 a tire. about 6 months ago. Check your local Wal-Mart.

At the landfill...$2.00 each if unmounted. Mounted tires and rims are $7.00 each. Total number per trip....8. Landfill is a 40 mile round trip.

J-yard will take unmounted rims for free. No tires!

This does a lot to discourage illegal dumping!!! NOT! "Keep Florida beautiful".....just words!!!

You could always goto the local tire shop, have em dismpount the tires, pay the disposal fee, then drop the rims off at a salvage yard that buys steel. Might make back most of the disposal fee.

But thats just MY opinion!

Here in Bellingham Wa. there's a company called Re-Comp you just drive in, they weigh you and you dump your load(tires included) and pay as you leave. Its all the same to them. Obviously no liquids/solvents and stuff, only solid trash.

if they are YOUR tires we are allowed to dump 5 tires. Actually dumping them means rolling them inside a trailer. If its more I think it was $2 per tire. The tire stations around here charge $2 per tire if they have to get rid of them. I usually just say toss them in the back. Then go to land fill. Long time ago we use to burn them in a 55 gal drum just outside the "barn" and warm out butts by it.

I guess its a good idea to keep the cost reasonable or some folks would just toss them.

My tires and rims will be given to a fellow Stovebolter who is traveling from Idaho to Montana later this week!!

Mike,

I think the 17" rims were a common option. The tire height of my 235/85R/16's is about the same.

darn.. I got a few big holes.. and by big, I mean like 100 yards long and about 20 yards wide and probably 20 feet deep.. with old cars and trucks and junk in the bottom.

I outta charge people $2 to toss their old tires in there!

I can unload 4 rims w\tires for free at the county dropoff at the end of my road. My father-in-law had two tractor tires to get rid and the dropoff doesn't handle those. Had to go to the landfill where it was something like $40 each.

We pay an environmental fee when we buy tires. No special charge for disposal, just like any other garbage.

Burn 'em, that's what the rednecks here do; then throw the rims in somebody else's ditch, like the dirtbags do.

I bet I would get laughed at if I went to the landfill w/tires here. "dang fella, you wanna dump what? You mean you drove by all those good ditches on the way here?" Brian

We are allowed to set out up to 10 tires a year with our local trash pick up . They will not take rims,so the tires have to be loose. We have guys that come around the night before trash day and pick up anything metal. They actually make good money junkin , especially when metal prices are up like they have been."One mans junk,is another mans treasure" !!

I'd put them on eBay, Wally. When I swapped over to 16" rims, I looked around to see what the 17's might bring if I wanted to sell them. Seems like it would be easy to get enough to cover the cost of shipping and have some pocket change left over.

I wouldn't recommend drugs, alcohol, and violence to anyone...but they've worked well for me.
