Hi, I"m new here wanted to say tanks to all ,for all the info an humer.you guys help with out even knowing it . this is a great place to be when when life gets in the way.. My son is always asking ,why no cup holders,whats wrong with the wipers ,why is the heater so loud.an so on.but the one that got me was .if your belly gets any bigger how will steer the truck??? he says its all ready rubbing the wheel

My belly rubs the wheel, the top of my thighs rub the back of the wheel and shifter and my head touches the roof. You should see the way my legs bend when I use the brake and clutch pedals.
Ergo I don't drive it for long stretches at a time!

My son complains about the manual windows. Brian

put in a tilt - telescoping steering column, and it will give you a few more inches of belly room.

When they built these trucks there weren't nearly as many big guys around like there are today. I'm a hair under 6' and I wish I had 1" more leg room. If I were taller I don't think I'd like this truck

Guess we just have to start looking to those guys with BIG rigs.

My boy says the same thing. "I wonder why"

There is less room in the cab of my '95 Western Star logger than there is in my 'bolt.

Being 6'3", (and skinny), my '53 pickup is quite roomy. I can even wear a hat (a fedora) while driving. As for cupholders, I have two- the cheap hang-on ones you get at the parts store, I hang them on the glove box door. Everyone who's seen my truck or ridden in it thinks it's cool.

I guess I am lucky. In the 40 years of owning my truck I have never suffered any slings and arrows regarding it. I have had about 200 offers to buy it over the years even though it has never been for sale. Everybody has always thought it is cool. Keep your chin up and drive proud!

Well it ain't as roomy as my 95 Crew Cab F**d but, when ever I get it going I don't think I'll mind.

The only ergonomic problem I've had is the height of the brake and clutch pedals. I had a very bad thigh bruise in college once and practically had to lift my left leg up with my hand to get my foot on the clutch . Both my wife and my father-in-law didn't have nice things to say after driving the truck, pedal height being the main complaint with the manual steering a close second. My wife's told me that she'll never try to drive it again. Thankfully, I've still got a couple of inches between my belly and the steering wheel, and even at 6'1", my legs have enough room with the bench seat all the way back.

Drove mine over 400 miles round trip and I can't be sure but I'd be willing to bet dollars to donuts that I lost a few pounds. It's a workout...

The problem is not with the truck it's I'm to fat . the kids today only know power widows,door locks tv in the car.When I pick him up from school in 54 pu he's all smiles an his friends go crazy they love it.But he also asked what it was like in the olded days .Thank god spelling dosn't count

You can always "trim" the seat springs on the back. Pull the seat backing forward, use a pair of pliers and show him how its done. Tell him EVERYTHING is customizable on these trucks.

my wife likes the floor gear stick -when its in 4th gear, doing 60mph, over rough ground,she cant stand the truck though, or is it me, never asked, seems happy enough

I bet if you relocated the gas tank under the bed you can get a few inches between you and the wheel.

I'm 6'2", on the thin side. I don't have any trouble with leg or head room in my '54 Chevy 1/2-T and find the bench seat way more comfortable for long drives than the bucket seats in friends' cars. There's plenty of clearance in there for me all the way around... except if I have to do any under-the-dash repair stuff. Then it's kind of cramped for a guy my height.

However, I did test drive a '46 Chevy truck and darned if my head didn't hit the ceiling every time we hit a bump. The leg room wasn't as good, plus I had to scrunch my head down to see out the windshield. It was a no-brainer that the '46 had too small a cab for me.

A fedora? Pimpin ain't easy, especially in a bolt. You have to put all the HO's in the back! better get a suburban so they don't get wet when it rains.

I'm more than happy to give up leg room in exchange for the ultra cool chunky styling. I used to think I was so dang good lookin', until I figured out it was my Bolt turning heads, not me.

You gotta admit, there is a certain coolness when it comes to simple functionality...with such STYLE.

Bub, don't feel bad. I trailered my '51 home from upstate NY and all I got from my 8yr old son was "why'd drive two days for that piece of junk?"

Both of my boys like to add their two cents when I drag a new project home but sure change their tune when they want a ride when its done. Thats the fun and pride of restoring a classic! Good luck.

If you're not going original, use a bench seat from around a '90 or so full size Chevy pickup. You have fab mounts, but you get a whole lot more head and leg room.
