alright so the frame shop told me my frame on my 63 c10 is toast. i was rear ended a few monhts back and finally got the insurance check and got it to a frame shop. so i need a new frame. id like to know what other frames for my 63 will fit it. i figured it would be 60-66 since basically everything else from those years is interchangeable. also, are there reproduction frames for 63 trucks? anyway thanks in advance for any help.
No. 60-62 had tortion bars for front springs. 63-66 should fit. There are 2-3 different lengths. You will have to find it in salvage. I dought anyone has a new one.
They say money can't buy happiness. It can buy old Chevy trucks though. Same thing. 1972 Chevy c10 Cheyenne Super In the Gallery Forum
There's some disagreement on whether the front crossmember bolts up the same between torsion bar/spring versions. To keep it simplest, stick with 63-66. Unless you want to switch to torsion bar, but that gets more involved.
The frames from 60-62 are completely different as are the suspensions on them. They are an "x" style drop frame as opposed the the newer "ladder" style frame they started using in 63. They used that style until 87 or so I've read. The front crossmember on the "x" frame is part of the torsion bar system and is also very different from what's on a truck with coil springs. You should have a lot of years to choose from. Obviously, the best fit will be 63-66.
What bigmacdaddy and others said.... In Addition the frame rails are further apart in 60-62. Thats why you cant use 60-62 bumpers on a 63-66 truck,Front Or Back Though they Look the same VISUALLY, The Bolt holes dont line up
ok cool thanks everyone. i found a rolling frame on ebay that will fit but its a longbed, and its in amazing condition the guy sandblasted it and painted it. is it possible to shorten it?
