I drove the old '63 to the top of what I affectionately called "Garbage Mountain" in the snow last week. We had to haul some scraps from the garage-building project to the local landfill and the staff directed us up a quarter mile, 30 degree (not percent) grade made for bulldozers. I didn't think the old two-wheel drive would make it, but it held and we topped it out. Scary as h*ll, but fun.

Drivers in the D/FW metro area don't know how to drive on dry roads, let alone wet ones. Throw in something frozen and all hell breaks loose.

Tomorrow is going to suck gentlemen, and snow tires isn't going to help. Pray for us all!

Hmm.

Drive one with nearly impossible to replace sheetmetal, or one with four-wheel-drive and parts that can be found on every second corner.

Other drivers scare me. The good stuff stays home when it snows.

Works real good, I'm still fighting with someone else's insurance company over damage they did to one of mine sitting in the back corner of my yard.

We got our tree on Sat. But I did drive in the snow today too. It's really cold here right now and the 49 is running great. Heater even works well. smile

we have had snow in washington, the state of, for a few weeks now and my old bolt goes like a tank. we have had deep powder, black ice, hardpack "white ice", and everything in between. it is a pleasure to drive, the heater does not work very well in the cold, 7 degrees today. i chalk that up to age and being out of its element. but that old truck is my daily driver and she never dissapoints. drive slow and think ahead.

The ol' 62 is my only four wheeled ride now,so of course I'll drive it in snow, the snowier, the better. My truck was built to drive, weather has no bearing on when I drive it. Besides,it handles snow and slick roads better than my newer vehicles, and the heater works GREAT!

Shipwright - that'd make a nice holidaze card wouldn't it. wink I got one of those cheapo harbor freight mini heaters that plugs into the cigarette lighter. Believe it or not, it works! And its better than nothing which is what I now have on the 59.

The other nice thing is if I drive my old dog, well, anything that's going to hit it these days will probably mostly bounce off it, especially if they hit my massive flatbed. That is, anything this side of a semi...

i have to fess up i didn't get out. had two lovely ladies coming over and had to clean the house. one may be a potential date, my first since my divorce four years ago. wanted to put my best foot foward and i stayed home to clean. looks like i will have another chance soon. 5-6 inches of snow coming. i put 250 #'s of weight in the back and goes fine. the cold does worry me 8 degs. today and it plans to stay that way, heater works but fan slow 6 in a 12 volt system with a reducer. without the reducer it sounds like it will fly off by it's self. BTW shipwright love picture!!!!!!!!!! POPCORN some get paid do what is fun lucky you. more fun to come. ron

Thanks everyone. I made some postcards from some of the pictures I took that day. Came out great. Old Gold, it IS cold here. Topped out today at a balmy 7°. I took old Ruby (the truck) to Home Depot this morning too. Two pumps and she started right up. Had to feather the throttle till she warmed up a bit, but started and ran fine. cool

CLETIS,thanks for the advice. it has been 40 years since my last date and i am not up to speed on the ways of doing things now. i thought the liberated woman would like a self sufficent man, not a needy one looking for a house keeper. try try try again. that may be my problem, no pets no woman no worries. ron BTW another chance to bolt thru the snow tonight, 4-6 inches by morning.

Hey shipwright, just wanted to say that the pics are really cool, you have a beautiful family ... and oh yeah the truck is pretty nice too wink ... I especially liked your idea of the postcards... I talked my wife into using the same idea for our Christmas cards this year... just in time I hope...

Rock on fellow stovebolt fans.

Weather update from Missouri... current time 11 a.m. -- 6 1/2 inches of snow, current temp + 4 degrees with forecasted of 12 for the day... ouch.

I have the same problem as cujo8. Here in western new york, they put alot of salt on the roads. I would love to take it for a spin though. Who knows, maybe i will just say screw it all, and take it for a short ride anyhow.

I wasn't home the last couple of days to get mine out. Had to go 200 miles west, over to ski country (Glenwood Springs, CO).

However, I chased down a real nice 49 1/2 ton, I saw going down the road yesterday, while I was over there.

I'm sure he don't have any trouble getting through the snow, as he had it sitting on top of a 74 Blazer frame.

He'd never heard of this site, but maybe popping in now that I've enlightened him.

Well our snow didn't come, we had rain which put a thin coat of ice here and there. They did call off school so I didn't have to get up early today. grin

Also yesterday while I was out on my bus route I spotted a 55-59 COE and a couple mid-sixties step sides, all in the weeds on differant farms.

Now if I just had some $$$$. frown

Me and the truck just got back from sledding on a local hill..Going down sure is a lot easier than walking back up..Got passed by every kid out there..They just kinda gave me that look like what's your problem..If I had any breath left, I would have told them, "Wait until you are 58"
No major damage, but the truck gave me a pretty evil look when we got home..
Stay warm and enjoy whatever you do..

i had dated my wife since i first met her in 1964, but it was not good enough for her after 35 yrs of marriage, flowers, candy, jewelry, surprise trips not good enough, so she moved on to a new man . i figured out if i ask someone out now i am not afraid that they would say no, i have already been rejected big time, but what will i do if they say yes. things have change alot since 64 me included my friends say i am to picky. TMI again. ron BTW something i thought wouldn't happen. parked my truck at work home depot and one of the guys said a cart was up against my truck. my comment not much can hurt tha solid metal on the 54, well it did, it now has a softball size dent and crease going down from there from a plastic cart that the wind blew across the lot, beware.
