Mongo's what followed me home post made me jealous. I've been looking for a COE for quite a while. So I closed the loop on one of the two I've been looking at for quite a while.

I've committed to buying this one:

I won't be picking it up for a couple weeks, since its a couple hundred miles away. I'm not distressed my the missing tin because I want to build an extended cab dually using a COE.

In fact, I think I'll leave the frame and running gear and only drag home the body. Any one have experience taking one of these apart, and able to offer any suggestions of the quickest way?

Make sure you grab all of the stuff that's uniquely cab-over. Get that panel that covers the rear of the engine, just below the rear of the cab. get the radiator baffles, upper and lower and the intake/exhaust manifolds with the carb. Grab the frame extentions that raise the cab up too. Welcome to the COE fraternity Oldsub,

Congratulations Steve, The COE Fraternity, is growing. Looks to be a '52, or '53 Chevy COE. What was the previous owner, attempting to do, with it.

4.3in84toy: How about an extended COE Panel Dually, with a set of Suburban windows behind the doors, providing more passenger glass. 454, turbo 475, and 4.11 gears. 161 inch wheel base means its two feet longer than the donor panel, but being a COE instead of conventional cab, its probably only a few inches longer than the 1-ton panel was stock.

Jeff: First trip will be to scope what's really there, and to actually pay for it. Taht should be mid-May. Perhaps second half of May or early June you and I can run to Portland and collect it?

wingedexpress1: Putting that cab on my P30 frame is exactly what I want to do! Its the 161 inch long wheelbase with 454 and turbo 475.

spanky: From the angle of the only photo I have I can't tell for sure what year or GMC or Chevy. The wing windows say '51 or newer and the split windshield say '53 or older. What do you see that narrows it down for you?

The previous owner used it as a sheet metal donor on a chopped and extended GMC pickup with a Cadillac V-8...

And thanks guys for not giving grief over the hot rod plan on this one. I figure I'm starting with one that's far enough gone bringing it back at all is a good thing...

The style cab grab handles it has, first came out in 1952.

Somehow looking at that grab handle makes me think the rear doors should hinge at the rear. I don't now why.

Have you got the coe home yet

Its been and gone...

I got it home a week ago yesterday (the Saturday) and then Sunday delivered it to a friends house where he generously offered to let me store it, and where he will claim a few parts off it.

I only wanted the sheet metal and need to get it removed and hauled home soon.

It's beautiful!! They are hard to find in our neck of the woods, I guess I am not looking in the right spots. Keep us posted on the progress. Best of luck!
