I'd second Kurts thought about the gas. I would drain the tank and put a fuel line hose from the intake of the fuel pump into a gas can with fresh fuel thru a drilled rubber stopper with a vent on the can and try that. Also, when I cleaned the tank of my '56, the crud in there was truly hazardous waste. as well, the carb could be gummed up after sitting so long.
