OK I'm in! Yesterday, fellow stovebolter garandboy and I met in San Ramon, CA, to pick up this old gal, a 1952 Chevy 1-ton single wheel that was sitting on a cattle ranch out there. The truck still has Wyoming plates from her former career as a fence mending and welding truck on the 2Dot Ranch in Cody, WY. She's got a really wacky ranch-built fence mending/welding bed on it that was scabbed together with scraps but appears to have been quite functional for it's intended use. The very cool logo of the ranch construction company, Taggert Construction, is still on the door (yes, I'm keeping it, and yes I've already sent Czechman a photo for his door art collection) - apparently, Taggert was the company that built most of the roads through Yellowstone Park back in the day. She was trucked over to CA back in 1998 or so and lived on a cattle ranch here for some time, working and driving some but mostly sitting unused. I lucked out and got her for $1200, which I think is a good deal considering she got new wheels, tires, brakes, and exhaust, all the lights and gauges work, and she fires right up and runs nice and smooth. Not a bad price for a running truck in this area, too - like everything else in CA, old trucks tend to be pricey here. Anyways, I'm going to take off the old fence mending bed and garandboy is going to build a welding trailer for himself with it. Then I'll put a nice age-appropriate wooden stake bed on her and she'll be good to go!
