That could work, but you will have to have some sort of stub shaft to go through the bearing to keep it from separating and to put the preload (approx. 180 ft/lbs) on the bearing. That's if you use the 4x4 style. The '01 and newer 2wds use a different style bearing, still a unit bearing, but doesn't require the axle nut to preload the bearing.
