My thought was that I'd use the existing stub shaft portion of the spindle with some kind of machined piece to fit over the spindle and against the bearing.

The nearly $300 per side for bearings put an end to that line of thinking before digging out any drawings to determine if the idea was at all possible.

My Corvette has a bearing unit on the front corners so I know what I was thinking has been done by a manufacture, just not if it is adaptable to our old trucks. Those bearings were about $150 last time I had to buy.

I also know that some people claim to have removed the four-wheel-drive stuff from the front of an S-10 to get the advantages of the torsion bar suspension and slightly wider track, but without the added weight and other disadvantages of four-wheel-drive.

So I put all this together in my head and imagine there may be a way to make this work on our trucks, just have done nothing about researching details to confirm it and aside from the 8-lug disk brake discussion haven't thought it important.
