I never meant to say it wouldn't work, only that it is a different design from the later style.
It will take a little research to get appropriate studs, especially if you want to keep std threads, and perhaps redrilling of some holes to match whatever studs are used, but I think it could be used in the same way the original was attached.
Now that I think about it, I seem to recall that the 6 lug conversion for the 1/2 tons actually mount the rotor that way, using 3 screws through the original rivet hole adn wheel studs to hold the rotor on from the backside. The original application for the rotor for that conversion ('71-'87 1/2 ton 4x4) mounted the rotor in the same way.
