I have a 53 3100 and have done the swap. I used an IFS from a 72 pickup. It is a lot of work, but the unit just bolts right in. It is wider than your original AD front and can be narrowed about 1 1/2 ". It sits pretty high but I put in 2 1/2 drop spindles and 1'drop coils to lower it. I ended up rebuilding the entire unit with new ball joints, tie rods, idler arm, control arm bushings, etc. The entire project ended up costing me about $800, including $250 for the drop spindles alone. Its drives pretty well, but my biggest problem has been getting the alignment right. Good luck and let us know your progress--- PICTURES PLEASE!!
