The engine could be a 235 or a 261 from 1954 or newer. Earlier 216 or 235 engines will have two large bolts in the top center of the valve cover. There should be a stamped (not cast) letter/number sequence on a machined pad just behind the distributor which can probably be used to identify the original application and year of manufacture of the engine. The red label on the generator identifies it as a 12 volt unit- - - -6V generators have a black ID tag. Keep us posted on the progress of getting acquainted with your new toy!
