I'll try to answer some of the questions.
I went out and checked the fuel pump again. You are right, it wasn't 20 seconds, more like five or six.
All I have are a wire from the battery to the ignition switch, a wire from the ignition switch to the coil, and a wire from the coil to the distributor. I could bypass the ignition switch, but all it does is feed power to the coil. Foot starter
Don't know about dirt in fuel. It goes through a filter before it hits the pump.
I checked the needle and seat by blowing through it when open and then trying when it was closed. Couldn't force sir through when it was closed.
Can't tell about vacuum leaks at the moment.
Battery and all cables are new, attached on bare metal. Starter turns over very well.
I swapped in a brand new coil I had for the brand new one that was on it.
I am going to give it a try tomorrow, and I have a squirt bottle of gas to try.
I'll let everyone know the results.

I am currently digging back in to a 1953 3800 (one ton) with a nine foot bed. I've owned it since 1979, and drove it until 1982 (or so). My wife got me involved in restoring it back in 2002, got the body removed and the frame redone, then things came up. Now I am retired and starting again. If anyone is interested I have photos on Imagur (
