You're probably pumping up the lifters and killing the compression after a short run time. It's a common problem with new lifters. Just take the obvious slack out of the lifters without bothering to perform some sort of voodoo magic with a certain number of turns of preload until you have made a cam break in run. Then go back with the engine at normal operating temperature and do a hydraulic lifter adjustment procedure.
