I live in Kansas City and had to deal with the folks at the DVM with my title issues. I had a title with dead owners name that never signed it over to my brother in-law who owned the truck since 1969. I went round and round with the local DMV over paper work and what not and never could get straight answers. I loaded up all the paper work and went to Jeff City. I was in and out in 20 minutes with all I needed to title the truck in my name. I had to purchase a bonded title just so no one could come along and claim the truck, it was $300 for five years, or something along those lines. It was no big deal, my home owners insurance company issued it. I then had to take the truck to the Highway Patrol for VIN verification, which was nothing since the truck had no VIN to start with. All they did was look at the engine serial number ( 1970 250 Chevrolet ), transmission serial number ( 197? turbo 350 ) and ask about some of the other parts installed. This took all of 15 minutes or so to get done. They then issued an MO VIN similar to trailers and home built kit cars. Once they were done, I sent the papers back to Jeff City and my title came VIA mail in a week or two. Jeff City was very helpful.
I tagged my truck as an antique through Grundy Worldwide Insurance. There are some restrictions, but nothing that changes the way I can use my truck. Price is so much per $1000, so you can set your own value, provided the photos can back up the price estimate. I pay $230 per year for $36K value, full coverage. My normal car insurance company was going to charge 4 times that per year. You should contact your agent to see what they recommend. For just a few extra dollars extra, I have Year Of Manufacture tags, 1937 Missouri tags, permanently mine with no yearly inspection. Everyday tags will require inspections.
