I have several vehicles with historic plates.
No inspections at all, you just need an in state title that is signed and dated.
Tags are good forever with no annual renewal, unless you get vanity plates, then is just to pay for the special tags each year.
You are allowed 1000 miles a year for personal use.
Unlimited miles to and from, shows, parades or repair.
So, if you want to take a road trip to Maine, just tell them about a event or parade you are going to.
You are also required to keep a log book of the miles and the reason.
I have been pulled over a few times for other reasons, but have never been asked to show the logbook. (no, not for speeding either)
The 54 Plymouth I bought in 1975 and still have, has never been inspected.
All I have to do is call the insurance company, put liability insurance on it and its legal to drive on public roads, brakes or not.
As for insurance, I did not give much for any of them, so if I want to drive one, I just put liability on them.
It usually runs about 80 bucks a year.
