Follow what Cletis outlined or we just pull a wire stick a screw driver in the end and hold it about 1/4 inch off the engine and have some one crank it (with the key on). Day or night you can see the spark.

No worries. I can handle $5 and I'll be near HF later this afternoon anyway. I'm still not 100% clear on how to do some of the suggestions and I would rather not fry something else, including myself.
