First - Those are replacement cables. The truck wasn't made with red cables.

A previous owner bought what ever cables fit regardless of color.

The way the battery was wired when you got it was how it was running.

Depending if the key was on or off will determine what blew up.

Key was out of the truck, ignition switch in the off position.
