Just a month shy of 6 years since I rolled it off the trailer. She's "coming out" today for a ride to town and my appointement with the Dr. Make some errand stops for a chance to show it off, burger for lunch, and back in the shop for some more waxing. Not really rubbing on it, more like caressing it. I need to take some time and learn how to load the pictures I've taken, but you can take my word for it, I'm one happy camper! I had a nasty little intermittent short that blows a fuse every 300-400 miles but I can't find in the shop with a meter. I hope that fixes it. | | | | Joined: Dec 2003 Posts: 1,144 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Dec 2003 Posts: 1,144 | Replaced the guages in the 48. Was going to just replace the 30lb oil guage with a 60lb unit. Had a extra guage cluster with better kooking gauges so moved the ammeter and fuel gauge as well.

After hanging around this circus for the past 6 years, I've learned to just stand around with my mouth open and agape in awe and amazement. Bunch of good people, but I've had more than a couple of "headscratching" moments. I don't mess with the TV remote and have trouble setting the clocks in the hosue, but I'm determined to figure out this photo posting thing sometime. Guess I should just give up and call my 9 year old grandson to come show me how to do it. Bear with me and we'll get it done. | | | | Joined: Dec 2001 Posts: 14,522 Moderator: Welcome Centre, Southern Bolters, Legion Hall | Moderator: Welcome Centre, Southern Bolters, Legion Hall Joined: Dec 2001 Posts: 14,522 | dj, I've seen a couple of your finished pics but as you can see these guys want proof to but I know you got'um if you need a witness. First tilted cab on its back using an engine hoist. Once i had it on its back, then rotated the cab so that the floor area is under my lights. Had my 12 yr old helping me, and it took a couple of hours with having to support the cab and re-arrange the hoist a few times. A very productive day. Uploaded some pics. http://s848.beta.photobucket.com/user/malibu67/library/1951%20Chevy%20Truck

Had to alter it a little as it was for a key start and an electronic ignition. This was my first time to do something like this so I was pretty nervous about hooking up the battery. It worked! I have a 235 with points and a foot starter but I figured out how to alter my harness to make it work. It didn't even drain my battery over night. Now I just need to swap the engine and I should have a new truck.

Last time this SBC ran was when I bought the Camaro from a tow yard and had it towed to my house in 1995. Yesterday after hooking up the throttle cable and shift linkage I fired it up. Drove it out of the shop and back in just to see if the gears worked. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v518/Blacktailer/1949%20Chevy/IMG_5415.jpg | | | | Joined: Oct 2006 Posts: 4,983 Master Gabster | Master Gabster Joined: Oct 2006 Posts: 4,983 | I bought a 35.00 timing light then remembered there was no positive connect under the hood. Jim, I use the 12v off the back of the alternator for the 12V positive on my '53 Thanks John, I will use that contact next time. I do wonder what I will do if I need to jump start as my battery cover is under carpet. It would be a real hassle to drop the battery.

....I picked up the lower cab windlace retainers from the powder coater today for my panel. They blasted and powder coated them for 20 bucks. They look nice and will match my seats and trim. | | | | Joined: Dec 2005 Posts: 1,026 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Dec 2005 Posts: 1,026 |
