While working in the Tech Tips section for over a month, I figured this GM Restoration package tip probably needs to be updated.

I noticed Keith Hardy had quite a few of the kits listed on the Old On-line Chevy Manulas Project.

Wasn't sure what would be best to make this TT current. Anyone willing / able to help. We should refer as many people to Keith's site as we can. Also, would like more feedback from those who may have ordered a kit.

When they first came out with this Resto kit, it was FREE. When you called them on the phone, the GM people were nice and acted like they were truly interested. In 2009 when I called to update this (a 'Bolter reported it wasn't free anymore), the GM folks were clueless about any of this info. So, it was like pulling teeth ... oh, no wait ... it was like getting out a clutch head screw ...

Anybody wanna help? Anybody at least got any feedback?

I pulled them all from a link posted here in the past. It would seem if they are all available as pdf's (free) to just post the link. I will look and see if I can find it.

gm resto kits download

go to your local copying store that will print it and bind it for ya... if you need a paper copy.

The free kit they sent out... if that is the same one they are charging for now, it isn't worth it. I haven't spoke with anyone to see if the quality has been upgraded or not.

I'd be interested to know if the ones they sell are the same. The free one I got was a copy of a mimeograph page made on a cheap copier. I wouldn't pay for another like it.

Its been a while but ditto what Cletis and Woog said.
I did call GM when a couple years ago and at that time they gave me a number to call. WHen I heard it was the same stuff Cletis mentioned I didn't bother to call anymore since then and don't know anyone who has.

Have you looked at and linked the GM Heritage Center?

It has a lot more information packs and seem to be of better quality.

Okay, this seems to be what I need to "adjust" the tech tip.

John got his resto kit a long time ago and said it was like what Cletis got. These links would be better.

The link that Woogeroo gave above (and later also given by Joe H) might be a little confusing to a novice. If the Tech Tip is being modified, maybe the following information should be given to the link:

It is not possible to link directly to the list of older specification manuals, so, look for the following line and press on the word "Show"
"Chevrolet Trucks (All Models Not Listed Below) Show"

If you have not recently looked at the list of manuals, it is now complete for 1930-1972 (years of interest on Stovebolt.com). Unfortunately, pages are still missing in several manuals; however, any of these manuals are a must-have for any owner.

also find info for Canadian GM production here, not sure if it's changed lately

I have been checking out the info available at the GM Heritage link. The vehicle information kits seem to be the same info that was once sent out as a resto kit however the pdfs are much easier to read than the smeared copy I received by mail back then.

While snooping around the site I got a chuckle out of these titles in the brochures:

Looks like the people who put the site together don't know much about Chevy trucks.

It's been a couple of years since I got mine from GM, and it was just copied from their files, but it was something I wouldn't want to be without. Had all of the specs from a lot of different models in the year I had, and I put it in a binder and refer to it a lot for different things. Goes well with all of the other (original) papers I've managed to cabbage from the previous owner over the years. And at the time, the price was right(FREE)! I like FREE!

Wow, well this turned out to be a major overhaul. However, we had a recurring theme ... FREE!! It was good to see GM finally has a decent method to securing this information.

So, here's the Tech Tip updated. Let me know if I missed something.

Thanks to all who helped out here. Maybe GM will someday get the picture and find they have "branding" that they didn't need to purchase.
