Stripped the hood latch panel and managed to shear the spot welds holding the pin and spring for the latch! Mind you this is only about the fourth part that's actually been seized on the whole truck so far....'spose I shouldn't grumble. Easily fixed as well. 1950 Chevy Advance Design 3100 in ScotlandIn the Stovebolt GalleryMore pix on Flickr. I also adjusted the brakes pulling all 4 wheels to see what things look like.
I got my heater blower motor working on BOTH high and low speed.
Bench tested the 6V electric wiper motor. Ready to install tomorrow.
So, busy but productive day.

I'm getting an original seat (in pretty rough shape) this week and want to be prepared.

Today will be seal primer day & color by the weekend. I may just get the cab back on the frame in the next few weeks. You never know, I may even make my self imposed deadline of next May for completion? Thank you all for your posts of your projects which have inspired me to finally get the 37 back on track after a time of loss of interest & frustration! | | | | Joined: Jun 2009 Posts: 2,201 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Jun 2009 Posts: 2,201 | You better take her out to dinner real soon. | | | | Joined: Oct 2006 Posts: 4,983 Master Gabster | Master Gabster Joined: Oct 2006 Posts: 4,983 | Charles, lol you just think you're finished with the cab. The slowest progress I've had is finishing the cab. I don't know what options you'll be having in your cab (radio, air, new steering column, vibration dampening, seat, new wiring, rebuilding vent window, new door handles and latches and any other possible upgrades) but you might think about finishing up when the next president is campaigning for reelection. Speaking of extended time table for finishing, I ordered new door latches to go with my new door handles from American Classic up in Denton. I don't normally order there unless they have something no one else has. They are in Texas and I don't want to pay state sales tax which can add up on an order. Anyway the shipment came in yesterday containing only the right side latch. It was late so instead of calling I emailed asking what's the deal. Last night I was inspecting the right hand latch and it seemed unusually tight. It was in the locked position and I could not release it. Moreover I couldn't fit the door handle into it either. I just figured I needed more time to check it out. Then this AM I got a email saying:
Mr. Dunkin, You were notified on your invoice in two places: in the comments in the middle just under the address at the top of the invoice and that you were not charged for the left latch since it showed $0.00 at the right hand column. As of yesterday, the left door latch is not available from any supplier. We have been trying for several months to get in the part but to no avail.
We will keep your part on backorder and ship it as soon as we get it into the warehouse.
Thank you for your order,
American Classic
...like, you idiot, can't you read? I can read and would have read the invoice had there been one in the box. Even so, there was no attempt to inform me that they back-ordered the part and would ship when available.
This morning I called Classic Parts (Chevy Duty) and hoping to order the left side latch. I got some interesting information. They aare not selling door latches for 47/51 ADs. They said they had sent all their inventory back to the vendor (China) because they were all defective. I asked in what way were they defective and was told they were too tight and were locked up. I will check with American Classic on this point but right now I think they new the problem with the latches and thought they could send me one and hope it would stick. Also Classic Parts told me it would be no sooner than 6 weeks, and perhaps longer, before the new handles would come in. More to come...

I'm not adding air, new steering column, etc. Just keeping it like it was before I took it apart, only hopefully better. Good thing is I ordered many of the needed parts over the past few years. I know I will need more & anticipate delays. I should have been more clear about "my self imposed deadline." I should have stated, "drivable, not finished." I have a friend coming from England in May who wants to drive it. That's my goal. It doesn't have to be totally complete, just driveable at that time. I don't think our trucks are ever completely finished, are they? I know my MG TD isn't even though I can drive it any time I feel like.
FriedGreenTmater, I will take her out for a nice dinner soon!!

This week bought a third row bench seat out of a Dodge Caravan from a local salvage yard and stripped it down, great fit dimensionally.
Today I took measurements of the seat to plan the re-upholstery, got my rear bumper fully mounted, mounted and tested my reverse lights (used some cheap, tiny halogen driving lights from the LAPS, very compact, plenty bright, mounted them under the rear cross sill so they aren't very noticeable), fixed my malfunctioning Lokar shifter, engineered the seat mounting system (designed to withstand a 5G crash, good enough?) and bought the material to make it, made some minor mods to seat to make it work.

I had to break down and grind the bolts off, but I got 'er done. Now, I can lift the bed off (tomorrow). I already had the bed wood and the bed-bolts off. But I couldn't lift the bed off with the wrap-around bumper on. So, the bumper has been the hold up to accessing the cab corners. hehe No longer. | | | | Joined: Oct 2006 Posts: 4,983 Master Gabster | Master Gabster Joined: Oct 2006 Posts: 4,983 | Last week got the brake pedal arm modified so it's more comfortable (was sitting too far away from the floor).

Mainly just used what I could remember from my strength of materials and mechanics classes. Since you asked, I did more research to find out what kind of loads current cars are designed for - looks like about 20 G's (5000lbs). I just reran my guesses and I may be closer to 10G's. So I may be under-designed but it's still better than what it came with originally. Since I rarely go on the freeway I'm not overly concerned.

Maybe it was my inexperience in using it but I fought trying to get it to work all day and finally threw in the towel. I also tried a gallon of Evapo-Rust and soaked a few parts. Though the product was pricey for my liking, the results were WOW! My hinges, cab kick panels, vent covers and horn button look fantastic! I'm looking into making my own soaking vat for larger items after viewing a video on Youtube about an Ausie fella that made his own rust removal operation. All I need is a large container to accomodate items like bumpers, fenders and a hood! Any ideas? I am looking into livestock watering troughs, hard plastic pools (I sure don't want to puncture)!
