Thanks guys! It's been 3 years for a frame-off. Back to original except added power brakes, new wheels, more chrome and polished SS bolts, bed strips, and LED taillights.
Lots more pics on photobucket link.

Fitted an external trans cooler, new dacron filter and pan gasket.

Stripped the hood latch panel and managed to shear the spot welds holding the pin and spring for the latch!
Mind you this is only about the fourth part that's actually been seized on the whole truck so far....'spose I shouldn't grumble.
Easily fixed as well.

Replaced the orginal radiator that could not be repaired locally with a new one from LMC. It actually fit well and works great....

I also adjusted the brakes pulling all 4 wheels to see what things look like.

I got my heater blower motor working on BOTH high and low speed.

Bench tested the 6V electric wiper motor. Ready to install tomorrow.

So, busy but productive day.

Today there was only a small window of opportunity to work on Rusty. http://s1203.photobucket.com/albums/bb399/slmaddex/
I managed to get some of the knobs where they go on the dash, banged down a high spot in the floorboard and did a bunch of research (some here on the bolt and some from an article from Hot Rod Deluxe, Sept '09 - Seat Time, "How to Rebuild Vintage Seats at Home). I'm getting an original seat (in pretty rough shape) this week and want to be prepared.

Yesterday I finally finished the long sanding process on my cab with my wife's help. (Her idea to help!!) Yea!!! Today will be seal primer day & color by the weekend. I may just get the cab back on the frame in the next few weeks. You never know, I may even make my self imposed deadline of next May for completion? Thank you all for your posts of your projects which have inspired me to finally get the 37 back on track after a time of loss of interest & frustration!

Charles,
lol you just think you're finished with the cab. The slowest progress I've had is finishing the cab. I don't know what options you'll be having in your cab (radio, air, new steering column, vibration dampening, seat, new wiring, rebuilding vent window, new door handles and latches and any other possible upgrades) but you might think about finishing up when the next president is campaigning for reelection.
Speaking of extended time table for finishing, I ordered new door latches to go with my new door handles from American Classic up in Denton. I don't normally order there unless they have something no one else has. They are in Texas and I don't want to pay state sales tax which can add up on an order. Anyway the shipment came in yesterday containing only the right side latch. It was late so instead of calling I emailed asking what's the deal. Last night I was inspecting the right hand latch and it seemed unusually tight. It was in the locked position and I could not release it. Moreover I couldn't fit the door handle into it either. I just figured I needed more time to check it out. Then this AM I got a email saying:

Mr. Dunkin,
You were notified on your invoice in two places: in the comments in the middle just under the address at the top of the invoice and that you were not charged for the left latch since it showed $0.00 at the right hand column.
As of yesterday, the left door latch is not available from any supplier. We have been trying for several months to get in the part but to no avail.

We will keep your part on backorder and ship it as soon as we get it into the warehouse.

Thank you for your order,

American Classic

...like, you idiot, can't you read? I can read and would have read the invoice had there been one in the box. Even so, there was no attempt to inform me that they back-ordered the part and would ship when available.

This morning I called Classic Parts (Chevy Duty) and hoping to order the left side latch. I got some interesting information. They aare not selling door latches for 47/51 ADs. They said they had sent all their inventory back to the vendor (China) because they were all defective. I asked in what way were they defective and was told they were too tight and were locked up. I will check with American Classic on this point but right now I think they new the problem with the latches and thought they could send me one and hope it would stick. Also Classic Parts told me it would be no sooner than 6 weeks, and perhaps longer, before the new handles would come in. More to come...

Big Chevy 3600, thanks for the reply. My truck is pretty much stock. I'm not adding air, new steering column, etc. Just keeping it like it was before I took it apart, only hopefully better. Good thing is I ordered many of the needed parts over the past few years. I know I will need more & anticipate delays. I should have been more clear about "my self imposed deadline." I should have stated, "drivable, not finished." I have a friend coming from England in May who wants to drive it. That's my goal. It doesn't have to be totally complete, just driveable at that time. I don't think our trucks are ever completely finished, are they? I know my MG TD isn't even though I can drive it any time I feel like.

FriedGreenTmater, I will take her out for a nice dinner soon!!

I took the steering column and box out a week ago and thanks to Silverado for giving me a good one, I was able to get it fixed. The lower bearing was totally shot. So now I am putting the whole unit back in, I didn't mark where the Pitman arm was exactly. Live and learn.

Been working on the bed this week. I got the boards coated and the supports positioned and drilled. Also got the fuel filler mounted.

A side note on the fuel filler. I ordered one from LMC for $69.95. I was at West Marine yesterday picking up a few things for the boat and there was the exact same filler same markings on it and everything for $31. Needless to say the one from LMS is being sent back today.

I bought a gallon of Evapo-Rust off Ebay and I'm excited to put it to work and start priming/painting some body parts.
Also, I have a borrowed sand blaster but I'm skeptical that my little compressor can provide... I may just have to hit some heavy duty parts like the brush guard and bumpers... in small spurts. Fingers crossed!
Hopefully this will be a productive weekend!
TGIF!

I made the brake linkage and got the brake pedal modified so that now I have hydrolic brakes on my 1930 1.5 ton. Now I need to rig a switch so that I have brake lights.

I finished Frame / Cab 2011 work by putting the cab back on the frame, for storage for the winter sleep. Hard to believe I was driving this as fully assembled May 29th of this year...

Last week got the brake pedal arm modified so it's more comfortable (was sitting too far away from the floor).

This week bought a third row bench seat out of a Dodge Caravan from a local salvage yard and stripped it down, great fit dimensionally.

Today I took measurements of the seat to plan the re-upholstery, got my rear bumper fully mounted, mounted and tested my reverse lights (used some cheap, tiny halogen driving lights from the LAPS, very compact, plenty bright, mounted them under the rear cross sill so they aren't very noticeable), fixed my malfunctioning Lokar shifter, engineered the seat mounting system (designed to withstand a 5G crash, good enough?) and bought the material to make it, made some minor mods to seat to make it work.

This may seem like a minor accomplishment, BUT I finally got the rear bumper off the '61! yahoo I had to break down and grind the bolts off, but I got 'er done. Now, I can lift the bed off (tomorrow). I already had the bed wood and the bed-bolts off. But I couldn't lift the bed off with the wrap-around bumper on. So, the bumper has been the hold up to accessing the cab corners. hehe No longer. grin

What did you do to engineer your seat to withstand a 5G crash?

i disassembled the cab rear mount shackles, replaced bushings, painted, and mounted the cab to the frame. Engine work: installed carb, water pump, fuel pump/filter, fan, battery, fuel lines, fuel linkage on rebuilt 235. Starting to look like a truck again!

Re: what did you do to engineer your seatto withstand 5G's?

Mainly just used what I could remember from my strength of materials and mechanics classes. Since you asked, I did more research to find out what kind of loads current cars are designed for - looks like about 20 G's (5000lbs). I just reran my guesses and I may be closer to 10G's. So I may be under-designed but it's still better than what it came with originally. Since I rarely go on the freeway I'm not overly concerned.

Replaced the bushings in the rear tracking arm on my '66 - what a difference in the ride!

Continued the bed work on the '53.

I didn't have much luck with the borrowed HF sandblaster.
Maybe it was my inexperience in using it but I fought trying to get it to work all day and finally threw in the towel.
I also tried a gallon of Evapo-Rust and soaked a few parts.
Though the product was pricey for my liking, the results were WOW! My hinges, cab kick panels, vent covers and horn button look fantastic!
I'm looking into making my own soaking vat for larger items after viewing a video on Youtube about an Ausie fella that made his own rust removal operation.
All I need is a large container to accomodate items like bumpers, fenders and a hood!
Any ideas? I am looking into livestock watering troughs, hard plastic pools (I sure don't want to puncture)!

Repainted the 51's 216 valve cover, PR cover, road draft tube and oil pan. Gotta hit the draft tube with one more coat this week and she should be ready to reassemble and drive till first snow.

Also bought a set of Guide 5 3/4 Fog Lamps, replacement bumpers, a slew of decals and submitted my '51 MO plate to the D.O.T. for review/reissue.

after work...I installed the alternator and new heater valve, then painted the radiator and bolts. Also cleaned and painted the blow-by tube and oil bath air cleaner. Next step, gas tank, radiator and radiator support (powder coated black). I agree with Baba, powder coating looks awesome.
